Idaho Springs Heritage Museum and Visitor Center

The Historical Society of Idaho Springs' visitor center and museum on Miner Street, open seven days a week, with mining-history exhibits, a mineral display and a gift shop of work by Colorado artists.

The Historical Society of Idaho Springs runs the Heritage Museum and Visitor Center at 2060 Miner Street, a 9,800-square-foot building the society says was planned in 1991 on the site of an abandoned swimming pool and first used in September 1992, as classrooms while Carlson Elementary was renovated. The visitor center gives out information on the town and sells crafts and souvenirs; the City of Idaho Springs’ visitor site says its gift shop carries more than 35 Colorado artists, and that the museum has exhibits on mining history and early life, an extensive mineral display, a giant teepee, local wildlife and 10th Mountain Division training equipment from Camp Hale. There is a nominal fee for the museum. The society also describes the Mount Blue Sky road, “the highest paved road in North America”, as starting at the visitor center.

The society says the center is open seven days a week, with winter hours of 10 am to 4 pm and summer hours of 9:30 am to 5 pm, but gives no dates for the change of season; the open-now status here uses 10 am to 4 pm, the hours common to both. Call 303-567-4382 before arriving near either end of the day.

Address, phone and hours were read on the society’s home page, and the seven-day opening on its page about the museum, on 10 October 2026; neither page carries a date within the last year. The City of Idaho Springs’ visitor site, read the same day, lists the Heritage Museum and Visitor Center at the same address and number, the second, independent source that it is operating.
