Echo Lake Campground
Forest Service campground at 10,600 feet beside Echo Lake at the base of Mount Blue Sky: 17 sites, $26 a night, reserved on Recreation.gov. Closed for now.
Echo Lake Campground sits at 10,600 feet near Echo Lake, at the base of Mount Blue Sky on Highway 103, on the Clear Creek Ranger District. From I-70 westbound take the Idaho Springs exit 240 onto Highway 103, go south 14 miles to the junction with Highway 5, turn right on Highway 5 and left into the campground. It has 17 sites, 10 for RVs and 7 for tents, each with a picnic table and fire ring, up to eight people a site, with parking spurs of 20 to 55 feet; tents go on the pads and vehicles on the spur. Vault toilets; no electric, water or sewer hookups, though the page’s water line says potable water is available, so confirm before relying on it. A single site is $26 a night, reserved on Recreation.gov. Fishing in the lake and hiking nearby, and the drive up to the summit of Mount Blue Sky. Dogs on a hand-held leash.
